Why Join Merced United Basketball?

At Merced United we are committed to more than gameplay. We provide an environment where young players build confidence, learn what teamwork actually requires, and pick up skills that carry well past the court. Every session is run by coaches who know this community, because they are from it.

We have served Merced County youth since 1979 through soccer, basketball, leadership, and health programming. Basketball is how we are extending that work into a second sport.

At Merced United, we’re not just about soccer; we're passionate about nurturing a love for all sports. Building on our successful foundation in youth soccer, we're excited to bring the same spirit to basketball. Our basketball league offers a fun, competitive, and inclusive atmosphere that caters to young athletes of all skill levels.

Merced United Basketball Summer Sessions are led by Coach Marques Barron, head coach of the Merced High School varsity girls basketball team.

Barron is Merced grown. He played varsity basketball for the Merced High Bears before returning to coach in the same gyms he came up in, and he now leads the Bears varsity girls program.

That combination gives players in these sessions something rare: direct access to the person who runs the high school program they will eventually try out for.

His coaching approach is about building complete players. Footwork, decision making, and reading the floor get the same attention as scoring, and the standard he sets off the court matters as much as the one he sets on it.

For Merced United, this partnership is the first step toward a longer collaboration with Merced High School and a full Merced United basketball season in 2027.

MU Basketball Clinics

These sessions are great opportunities for players to improve their abilities and for parents to engage with coaches and other families.
